Photo exhibition "New Women - Uzbekistan - the twentieth century", devoted to 30 years of CEDAW Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, is opened in Tashkent at the Gallery of Fine Arts of Uzbekistan from 19 November to 2 December.

The exhibition "New Women - Uzbekistan - the twentieth century" features photographs from family albums of many famous people of Uzbekistan, collected by Marfua Tohtahodzhaeva. 

"New women – Uzbekistan - XX Century" is organized by the UN Development Program in collaboration with the Gallery of Fine Arts of Uzbekistan. 

The exhibition presents 100 photographs, and each of them devoted to Uzbek woman - a woman of XX century. 

XX century played an important role in the life of the eastern woman. This century became a turning point, since it was in these years took place the transition from patriarchal to modern lifestyles in Uzbekistan. It was at that time Uzbekistan has come to understand that the girl should not only be the mother, the guardian of the hearth, but also should contribute to the development of science, art and other fields. More attention has been paid to education, education of Uzbekistan women. 

And, finally, it is in the XX century Uzbek women have legislated equal rights and opportunities. 

Through exhibition opened, you can see what they are - the first woman, new Uzbekistan women, who have a machine, first went on stage, began to teach children, or devoted themselves to science. 

Interestingly respected the concept of filing photos. The very first and perhaps the most "ancient" picture is dated by 1912 year. 

Conditionally complete exhibition of photographs, as close to our age. This allows you to trace the evolution of some - as a female image was modified, developed ways of life. All this is clearly documented represented at the exhibition. 

An exhibition largely thanks Marfua Tohtahodzhaeva. She has devoted a long time for collection, picking up the photos, looking through various family photo albums. 

Marfua Tohtahodzhaeva emphasized the concept of "new Uzbekistan women", introduced in the late XIX century by Turkish modernist Qasim Amin: "The concept is based on the notion of women as educated, enlightened, equal with her husband, not only in matters of child rearing, but also shared the responsibility with the man for the future of their children, society and country. " 

"Women in Uzbekistan in the twentieth century were part of a modernization process that began in the first decade and lasted the entire century, although with some difficulties in the Soviet period. These Uzbek women feel that they have the power and opportunity to participate in the life of the country, thus laying a solid foundation for authorization women after Uzbekistan gained independence", Marfua Tohtahodzhaeva said. 

Come and view the works on Uzbekistan woman! They imprinted lives of three generations of Uzbek women living in the twentieth century. 

When inspecting the exhibition, you will see Uzbek women who loved, worked, built and created. So different, but similar in their desire to be loved, desired, and educated. 

The exhibition is open until December 2, 2009, free entrance.
